The Dementia (disorder which reduces the mental abilities) Society of America (DSA) has made public that they will be accepting donations in cryptocurrencies. Its founder president Kevin Jameson announced, “We have long understood the innovation and freedom-loving value of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin , and have decided to partner with The Giving Block to expand our crypto capabilities and engage the community, thereby expanding our reach.”
Approximately $25 million worth of Ripple cryptocurrency has been donated to the San Francisco state university by the co-founder of Rippler, Chris Larsen and his wife Lyna Lam. The main aim of the campaign is to empower the students in the university, energize programs and confirmed that the gift will support the “Lam-Larsen Fund for Global Innovation”.
Prestigious universities and colleges like Stanford, MIT, Cornell, Puget Sound, and Princeton all accept crypto donations and have huge crypto backed endowments. Most of these schools also provide students with academic credits for courses on smart contracts and blockchains. The alumnus of the Simon Fraser University (SFU) named Scott Nelson and Mike Yeung have made a bitcoin donation worth of $6,000 to the Power of Engagement program. The aim of the program is to accelerate the bitcoin adoption & boost its implementation. And they have also expressed their optimism towards the potential of bitcoin to benefit both people and business.
A cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase have been threatened by a lawsuit from an Israeli NGO if they don’t stop the Hamas fundraising in their platform. In its warning letter, “By providing material support or resources to Hamas is a violation of U.S. federal criminal law, and to demand to terminate all accounts and services provided to Hamas.”
The TRON Foundation have teamed up with the ALS Association to launch a blockchain-powered charity campaign which allows the donation to track the donation distribution. The proposal to accept cryptocurrency donation for political campaign purposes has been rejected by the North Carolina State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement. The State Elections Executive Director, Kim Westbrook Strach has made it clear, “We do not have the confidence that we could adequately regulate contributions to a political campaign in North Carolina in the form of cryptocurrency.”
Shacklewell Lane Mosque has confirmed the acceptance of cryptocurrency form of Sadaqah (donations) and collected 13,983 GBP in digital currency during Ramadan despite the concerns of Islamic leaders regarding cryptocurrency.
